Comics I Like - Part 7 - Invisible Republic

Hi People,

I bring you Invisible Republic from Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman.

Maybe I should at this point state that :

Yes I`m reading a lot of recent Sci-Fi and loving it so much.
Yes I`m reading a lot of stuff that I find on "Best of" - Lists.
Thanks for everybody doing that types of lists!

Invisible Republic is gritty and has journalists as main characters. It revolves around politics in space and has some neat story telling tricks that I like. Also, nice style in the coloring and drawing.

If you decide to pick it up - Enjoy a complex and compelling space journalist adventure!

Comics I Like - Part 5 - Lazarus

Hi People,

I bring you - Lazarus by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark.

It follows Forever, the so called Lazarus of one of the 16 Families that rule the world.

Yes, its dystopian, sort of sci-fi / action that develops some broader picture over time.

Its still ongoing and currently at Vol 4.

If you like that sort of stories, where all is a bit grim, this good be something for you.

If you decide to pick it up - enjoy the look into a dark timeline!

Comics I Like - Part 4 - Monstress

Hi People,

I bring you Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda.

It is mangastyle, but even if you normally don`t like it that much (like me for example), you could still like this comic.

The beginnings of the story are wild, confusing, and not easy to follow, in my opinion. But the longer you hold on and read on, you get more and more intrigued.
The world has elements of everything, magic, fantasy, some steampunky touch.

The story is a that of a young woman that has to battle many things, beneath them a literal inner monster that somehow possesses her.

Its wonderful!

If you decide to pick it up - enjoy the ride!

PS: I normally don`t like to point it out, but I find it also cool that these are two female artists.

Comics I Like - Part 3 - Descender

Hi People,

I bring you Descender from Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen.

There are giant world destroying robots in there that are threatening humankind and must be stopped.

We follow different characters with different takes on the topic and some of them are actually trying to prevent further catastrophes.

Behind that main story-line Descender is a beautiful Sci-Fi-Comic about Robots, Humans and if there is a difference.

Its still ongoing so at the moment we don`t know what will happen. But I`m sure it will look stunning and it will make you think!

If you pick it up - enjoy!

Comics I Like - Part 2 - Southern Bastards

Hi People,

I just finished Volume 2 of Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour.

There are no heroes with super powers in it, there is no big story world destroying story arc.

What there is is good art, good text, characters that surprise, and feelings you didn't think you would feel by reading this comic. Also, violence. But you will probably be able to handle it.
Its no "Walking Dead"-type of violence.

Its plays in the South of the USA, it revolves around the life (and death) of the people living there.

For me, not being American and never been to the South, it is a strange voyage to a strange country and life. But an intriguing one.

You will like this comic, if you like stories about life and death, about the questions that these topics bring. You will not like it if you prefer to visit happy places in comics.

If you pick it up - enjoy!

Comics I Like - Part 1 - Bone

Hi People, comics are wonderful. Always have been. There are lots and lots of fantastic stuff to read. You get the english-american comic market, the different asian styles, the franco-belgian style...and obviously they again divide into a million sub genres and sections.

The medium allows you to approach every imaginable topic because it doesn`t have the limitations of movies, tv or books. There is a reason why people started painting stuff and not writing.

Also there are a ton of lists, blogs, articles and whatever not about where to start.

 I will not do that.

I just will throw stuff at you that I actually read and liked enough to make time for.
The area will mostly be english and franco-belgian/european. Its not easy for me to dig the asian stuff.

With this post I would like to introduce you "Bone".

Written and illustrated by Jeff Smith, it is a plain incredible, lovable and deep comic.

Dont let the simple style and "small scale" start of the story fool you.
It will make your heart ache, you will feel all kinds of feelings reading through this.
Personally for me it was the beginning of my journey with this medium.
Please consinder buying the "One Volume"-Version:
It will make your reading expirience nice and smooth, although it may cause you sleepless nights because you want to finish it all in one.
Also, it looks good whereever you decide to put it.
Thank me later, until then, enjoy!
